Privacy policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

Have It, Want It, Need It ("the site," "we," "us") is owned and operated by Clockwork Systems LLC. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who it's shared with, and what control you have over it. If you have questions, email support@haveitwantitneedit.com.

What we collect

Your account. Your email address, your handle (the public name you choose), and your password. Passwords are stored in a scrambled (hashed) form, so nobody, including us, can read them.

Your want list and books. The comics you add to your want list, with any grade, price limit, priority, and notes you set, and which ones you've marked as found, and any books you add to "My books," with their grade, asking price, and notes.

How you found us. If you tell us where you heard about us when you sign up, we save your answer. If you arrived from a campaign link, we save which campaign it was (see Cookies, below).

Your settings. How often you want alert emails, whether your want list counts toward anonymous totals, and whether and how your want list is shared.

Your activity on matches. When you mark a match as "not this book," we record the listing and the reason, to improve how matching works.

Messages you send us. If you use the feedback form, we receive your message, your email address, the page you came from, and your browser type, by email. We don't store feedback on the site.

Technical information. Like most websites, our server automatically logs requests, including IP addresses, browser type, and the pages requested. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure.

Seller information. If you set up selling, you give your identity and bank details directly to Stripe, our payment provider, not to us. We only store your Stripe account ID and whether your account is ready to receive payments.

What we don't do

We don't sell your information, rent it out, or share it with advertisers. We don't use advertising trackers. We don't build profiles of you for marketing.

How we use it

  • To run the site: finding eBay listings that match your want list, showing them in your listings, and sending the alerts you asked for.
  • To send account emails you trigger, like email confirmation and password resets.
  • To produce anonymous totals about what collectors want (see below).
  • To keep the site secure and working, and to fix problems.
  • To reply to messages you send us.

Shared want lists

Your want list is private unless you turn on sharing in your settings. When it's on, anyone with your link can see your handle and the comics on your list, including ones you've marked as found. You choose whether it also shows the minimum grades and maximum prices you've set. It never shows your email address or your notes. You can turn sharing off anytime, and the page stops working right away. If you change your handle, your old link stops working.

Anonymous want list totals

Public pages on the site show how many collectors want an issue, and roughly what grades and prices they're looking for. These are totals only: they never show your name, email, exact price limits, or that you personally want any book. Groups smaller than three people are never shown as a number, and prices are only shown as broad ranges. You can exclude your want list from these totals anytime in your settings.

eBay links and affiliate earnings

Links to eBay listings on this site and in our emails are affiliate links: as an eBay Partner, we may be paid a commission if you buy something after clicking one. When you click, you leave our site, and eBay may use cookies to track the referral. eBay's own privacy policy applies to your use of eBay. We don't send eBay any information about you; our searches of eBay aren't linked to your identity.

Cookies

We use cookies the site needs to work: one that keeps you logged in, one that protects forms from forgery, and, if you choose "remember me," one that keeps you logged in longer. If you arrive from a link that says which campaign it came from (for example, a post or an ad), we keep that campaign information in a cookie for up to 30 days, and save it to your account if you sign up, so we can tell which campaigns bring people to the site. It stays with us. We don't use cookies for advertising, and we don't share them with anyone.

Services we use

These companies handle data on our behalf, only as needed to run the site:

  • Amazon Web Services hosts the site and its database, and sends our emails.
  • Umami counts visits to the site, like which pages are popular and which sites send people here. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't collect personal information, and only gives us totals, not a record of what any one person did. Umami's privacy policy applies.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile protects our signup and login forms from bots. When you use those forms, it checks signals from your browser to tell people and bots apart. Cloudflare doesn't use this to track you or show you ads. Cloudflare's privacy policy applies.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users from fraud or abuse.

How long we keep it

  • Your account, want list, books, and settings are kept until you delete your account.
  • Matches are deleted 30 days after the eBay listing ends.
  • Unfinished list imports are deleted after 7 days.
  • Server logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically.
  • Backups of our database are kept for up to 30 days. If you delete your account, your data may remain in backups until they expire, but it isn't used.

Your choices and rights

  • Email: change how often you get alerts, or turn them off, in your settings or from the unsubscribe link in any alert.
  • Anonymous totals: opt out in your settings.
  • Sharing your want list: it's off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off anytime in your settings.
  • Correcting your information: edit your want list, books, and settings anytime.
  • Deleting your account: do it yourself in settings. It permanently deletes your account, want list, books, and matches.
  • A copy of your data: email us and we'll send you what we hold about you.

If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have rights under the GDPR, including access, correction, deletion, restricting or objecting to how we use your data, and data portability. We use your information to provide the service you signed up for, with your consent for alert emails, and for our legitimate interests in keeping the site secure and producing anonymous totals, which you can opt out of. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Where your data is stored

Our servers are in the United States. If you use the site from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and stored in the US.

Security

The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are hashed, and access to our servers is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Children

The site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes, we'll update the date at the top and let account holders know by email.
